Why the harsh judgment?
A criticism that often comes from young earth creationists is that if there were people who lived before Adam and Eve, how were they reconciled? I don't think that's a problem at all, although there's not much written about it, I think we can find the answer in Ezekiel 28.18.
We see from Ezekiel 28 that Lucifer stood for the song of praise, that he stood for sanctuaries, where people clearly came to worship God.
It says in verse 17 that God threw Lucifer to the ground, that is, the earth had a purpose,
Ezekiel 28:17 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
Ezekiel 28:18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
First of all, there were kings, that is, there was a man-made system, where some people ruled over other people. In verse 19 it says that the nations that knew him were terrified by the fall of Lucifer.
If we are to see this in relation to Adam and Eve, then Lucifer's fall cannot have happened after the fall of Adam and Eve, since the serpent had already tempted Eve in the garden. It must therefore have been before their existence, because Ezekiel 18.17-18 speaks of nations and kings.
I believe that from these verses I can show that people lived freely among angels, who, among other things, led them in praise to God.
The more trusted, the more one can demand, says the scripture. I believe it is the same with the amount of glory from God one witnesses. The more glory, the harsher the punishment if one evades.
Whether or not people also saw God face to face is not stated, but I believe that the conditions are similar to those that will be in the 1000-year kingdom, which is why I should not be surprised if they actually saw God face to face, which people will also do in the 1000-year kingdom, by Jesus establishing his kingdom on earth.
So therefore, God could, without thinking about reconciliation, punish people as severely as he did, because they saw God's glory to a degree that we see evidence of in the scriptures to happen in the 1000-year kingdom, and the kingdoms of earlier times before Adam and Eve.
